After a grueling 8 hour plane ride which consisted of absolutely no sleep, I am in Spain. We got to the airport around 8 this morning. There were a ton of other students flying to Madrid for study abroad, so we got to talk to a few of them. By 10:30, we were in a bus on the way to Alcalá. We met in the Plaza de Cervantes to be greeted by our host mother/family. Logan and I are living with a single woman. We call her More. She calls me Bro cause she can’t pronounce my name and Logan (who I call Logancita) is now called Locita. We love it. We got settled in to our adorable rooms and took a siesta. Simply wanted to meet up with us at la Universidad, but even living 5 minutes from it, we got lost for about an hour. Didn’t get to meet up with Simply, but we found some cute shops and made it home in time for dinner. Our mom is obsessed with telenovelas, which are Spanish soap operas, but during dinner she spares us and allows us to watch game shows. She says that the word games really help us grow our vocabulary. Anyways, Logan and I are gonna get to bed pretty early tonight. 10 pm, my mom would be so proud. Tomorrow is orientation!
Headed to Spain, guys! After talking about this trip for an entire year, it is finally happening. Logan, Simply and I leave at 4:45 pm today and we should arrive around 1:10 am eastern time and 12:10 am central. But it will be 7:10 am in Madrid. It’s gonna be a long, weird day. Lots of sleep deprivation headed my way.
Hope you all have a wonderful day! Keep us in your prayers.
Last few days in Nashville- I leave the States in 5! #surreal

Dance, poor people, dance and drown.
Dance, fair Paris, to the ground.

Dance, fair Paris, ashes now.

Basically, my life is insane right now. I finished up my spring semester a little over 2 weeks ago. Upon finishing that (on the dean’s list, might I add), I had an insanely intense Spanish course for one week. I was physically and emotionally drained the entire week, but I loved every second of it. I got to meet the crew going to Spain with me and we all became really close. I’m just getting really antsy.
So I leave in 15 days. 15 DAYS ! Holy frijoles. I never thought the day would come. What is so stressful is that my trip is pretty much paid for- I did a huuuge income adjustment with financial aid and since dad died, my mom only makes a small fraction of what we were getting before- but none of the money has shown up yet and I’m kind of freaking out. Also, I still have a lot of small details to work out with traveling and buying a converter, etc. etc.
Then there are all of the people to see… basically, I’m in Nashville until Wednesday morning. I’m babysitting in CHA until Friday, moving out on Saturday, going to Knoxville until the 23rd, then back to Nashville to spend time with my mom, back to Knoxville and I’m leaving from there to get to Charlotte and then leaving from Charlotte to go to Spain. PSHEW.
Anyways, I’m just ready for these 15 days to fly by. :)
Our Joss Whedon, the man whose brain-bending, word-playing, heartbreaking shows needed constant care, attention and “save this show” campaigns from legions of TV devotees in order to survive, is an entertainment industry superhero now.
For a guy who got kicked around repeatedly by the industry, becoming its new colossus must be a deeply enjoyable irony. Having spent more than 20 years working in the entertainment trenches and helping infect pop culture with a distinctive and subversive worldview, Joss Whedon is having his Moment, the defining experience every hero both dreads and longs for.
Let’s hope he slays it.
